The San Diego Women’s Foundation held its 19th Annual Grants Celebration June 5 and awarded a total of $243,000 to five local organizations and programs combating human trafficking. The 2019 grantees included Children’s Legal Services, Free to Thrive, GenerateHope, North County Lifeline, and Project Concern International: San Diego Trafficking Prevention Collective. Since its founding in 2000, the San Diego Women’s Foundation has granted $3.5 million to 96 nonprofit programs that benefit underserved communities.

Several years ago, while running on the beach in San Diego, 11-year old Kenan Pala noticed a sick baby seal lying in the sand. Beachgoers gathered to help the animal, getting it blankets and water, and calling animal rescue. On the car ride home, Pala then saw a homeless person who was also sick and asking for help yet received none.
