SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — In an effort to further protect public health, San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairman Nathan Fletcher and Vice Chair Nora Vargas will join local health officials Monday at a news conference at which they will recommend that employers require all of their employees to show proof they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or, if they are unwilling, require their employees to submit to weekly COVID-19 testing.
The County of San Diego, the fifth largest employer in the region with more than 18,000 employees, said they will be requiring the same of its employees starting this month.
San Diego County officials said the rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalization due to the growing prominence of the Delta Variant continues to be of major concern.
The County has made vaccines widely available for free and recently expanded the number of testing sites.
