A body found in the ocean off Carlsbad State Beach on Thursday has been identified as that of Samuel Palava Santillan, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Santillan, 34, was spotted by swimmers about 10:45 a.m., authorities said. The body was floating face down in the water.
Lifeguards retrieved the body.
An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death. The medical examiner did not say where Santillan had last resided.
