The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shockingly shared that a member of the royal family was concerned of Archie’s skin color when Markle was still pregnant. Prince Harry corroborated his wife’s claim saying it was a conversation they had early on and royal expert Katie Nicholl said the Queen and the members of the royal family were taking the racism accusation very seriously. For her, the palace should address it despite its “no-comment policy.”

“The queen’s mantra has always been, ‘Never complain, never explain.’ I think the Palace was hoping and certainly newspapers were being briefed over the weekend that this would just be a storm that blew over given time,'” Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight.

“I think we’ve all realized on both sides of the pond that this storm is not going to go away anytime soon. The can of worms has been opened, some very serious things have been said and I think the Palace really have no choice but to issue some sort of a comment.”

Both Prince Harry and Markle declined to drop the name of the member of the royal family who seemed to have had an issue with Archie’s complexion. Markle said it would be “too damaging.” However, Winfrey said Prince Harry told her it wasn’t his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II or grandfather Prince Philip.

“It’s opened up a Pandora’s Box and there is something of a witch hunt to find out which royal it is,” Nicholl said. “The suggestion is that if it’s Charles, if it’s William — that’s a very big if, no one knows, it’s pure speculation — then that has real repercussions for the monarchy. Charles is going to be the next king. After that, William.”

Nicholl said it doesn’t matter which member of the royal family aired their concern about Archie’s skin color, but what matters is the fact that a member of the royals expressed such a view. Also, the racism allegation was dropped on Commonwealth Day which is very important to the Queen.

The “Harry and Meghan” author added that there was a feeling of shock and disbelief over the allegation. The public and social media were divided and there was a huge amount of offense that the queen, the institution and the royal family were accused of racism.
