A bicyclist suffered severe head trauma Wednesday night when he was struck by a car in El Cajon, police said.
The man was riding in a bicycle lane on South First Street near Lexington Avenue about 7 p.m. when the sedan struck him while making a turn into a driveway, El Cajon police Lt. Will Guerin said.
Officers found the victim conscious but bleeding from his head with “severe … obvious head trauma” and a possible broken leg, Guerin said. He lost consciousness as medics took him to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
It was unknown if the victim’s injuries were expected to be life-threatening, according to Guerin.
The sedan’s driver was not suspected of operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the lieutenant said.
