La Mesa police arrest suspect in shooting

La Mesa police responded to shots fired outside an apartment building Friday night and arrested a suspect after a brief chase.

At 9:50 p.m., the La Mesa Police Department received a call of shots fired in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Cowles Mountain Boulevard at Beaver Lake Drive. Police said they do not think anyone was struck by the gunfire.

A suspect ran away, and police saw a white Range Rover leave the area. Officers tried to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled and police pursued it, until it crashed at the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and Baltimore Drive. The driver ran, and police eventually arrested a 20-year-old suspect. He was booked into jail on charges of driving under the influence.
