The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are having a sit-down interview with Oprah for a CBS primetime special. However, their guesting on the show is becoming a “cause for concern” within the royal family especially for Prince William, a royal insider told Page Six.
Prince Harry and Markle’s upcoming interview has conjured up memories of Princess Diana’s infamous 1995 Panorama interview with Martin Bashir. During the interview, the late Princess of Wales got candid about Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
It brought up memories for Prince William of his mom telling Bashir, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” the source said. Princess Diana’s admission rocked the royal family and it also started a beef between the mother and son.
In Amazon Prime’s documentary “William and Harry: Brothers in Arms,” royal correspondent Katie Nicholl said Prince William was “exposed to everything from the interview and called his mother in a fury and a rage.”
Meanwhile, Princess Diana’s close friend Simone Simmons also reported the same to Vanity Fair. Prince William was furious about Princess Diana’s interview and even said he couldn’t forgive her for doing it.
“[She told me] it was the one time William turned on his mother and said, that he would never forgive Diana for what she’d done,” Simmons said.
Prince William opened up about the incident in the BBC documentary “Diana, 7 Days.” The Duke of Cambridge admitted he understood where his mom was coming from during her emotional interview.
“I can understand – having sometimes been in those situations, you feel incredibly desperate and it is very unfair that things are being said that are untrue,” Prince William said. “The easiest thing to do is just to say or go to the media yourself. Open that door. [But] once you’ve opened it you can never close it again.”
Markle and Prince Harry will be opening up about their life in their interview with Oprah after announcing that they are expecting their second baby. The Duchess of Sussex will talk about marriage, motherhood and how she is handling her life under intense public pressure. On the other hand, the Duke of Sussex will talk about their life after moving to the United States and their future plans.
Prince Harry and Markle’s interview will air on March 7 at 8 p.m. EST/PST on CBS.
