The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose Wednesday for the 27th time in 28 days, increasing a half-cent to $3.535, its highest amount since March 3.
The average price has increased 19 cents over the past 28 days, including two-tenths of a cent on Monday and Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
It is 4 cents more than one week ago and 20.1 cents higher than one month ago but 2.6 cents less than one year ago.
“Crude oil prices seem to be the major factor behind rising gas prices locally and around the country,” said Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California. “They are rising in anticipation of more demand as the COVID-19 vaccine is distributed and the economy strengthens.”
