San Diego’s Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon postponed until fall 2021

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego marathon has been delayed until the fall in the interest of participants and the city’s “health and well-being.”

Race organizers have moved the marathon from June 5-6 to sometime in the fall, though an official date was not revealed. Currently, California is not allowing mass gatherings in any tier of its reopening plan.

Organizers said they are confident they will have a better chance of resuming sometime later this year and can be held in accordance with health and safety guidelines and recommendations due to the pandemic.

“After evaluating the current status and impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with local officials, we regret to share that Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego cannot take place as originally scheduled on June 5-6, 2021 in the interest of both our participant and host community’s health and well-being,” a release from organizers said. “While this is a disappointing way to start the year, officials from Rock ‘n’ Roll and the City of San Diego feel confident the event will be better positioned for a strong return in the Fall of 2021.”

Last year, the race was set to be held on May 30-31, before the pandemic began. Organizers had rescheduled the 2020 race until the fall before it was outright canceled.

In lieu of the race’s many live events, Rock ‘n’ Roll started a virtual running club in 2020 to connect its community of runners across several cities.

Updates on the race for participants and more information can be found online here.
