San Diego County public health officials reported 1,598 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 55 more deaths from the disease.
The increase followed two consecutive days with fewer than 1,000 new cases — a level that had not seen since before numbers began to surge in November.
COVID-19 hospitalizations, though, have been on a steady decline since Jan. 21. They’ve fallen 23% to 1,207.
Use of ICU beds by COVID patients also has dropped over the same period, by 18%.
Out of 21,594 test results received in the past day, 7% were positive, as the 14-day rolling average of positive cases continued its downward trend, reaching 7.5%.
Since the first local case in March, there have been 242,616 cases of coronavirus and 2,738 deaths.
UC San Diego Health also reported that medical personnel at the Petco Park Vaccination Superstation administered their 100,000th shot Thursday.
The site opened Jan. 11 and averages approximately 5,000 vaccinations a day.
